Field notes/08

Understanding conflicting records

A structured conflict table is more useful than forcing one source into a premature verdict.

01

Map each claim

List the claim, source, date, identifier and conflicting record. Check whether the sources describe different entities, time periods or permissions.

02

Publish uncertainty

If the conflict cannot be resolved, show both records and explain the unanswered question. Confidence comes from transparent limits, not a polished but unsupported answer.
